Vale Newfoundland & Labrador Limited (Vale NL) are inviting submissions of an Expression of Interest for a potential opportunity to support the Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion Project in Voisey’s Bay,  

SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of this package is for initial and ongoing mine rescue training of crews at the Eastern Deeps and Reid Brook underground mines at Voisey’s Bay to meet the minimum requirements for mine rescue set out by the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission.  A qualified trainer (meeting the requirements for a certified Mine Rescue Trainer) is required to provide initial Mine Rescue Certification Training  Basic Mine Rescue Training to candidates provided by the company. This Mine Rescue Certification Training must include Basic Mine Rescue training consisting of a 5-day session where candidates are taught theory and application of knowledge in: objective of rescue and recovery; properties of normal air and gases encountered in a contaminated mine atmosphere; gas detection methods and use of gas detection equipment; respiratory protection and training in wearing respiratory protection; travel and work in smoke; demanding work under oxygen by erecting seals and building barricades; and pumping oxygen. This session requires a final exam administered by the qualified trainer and all learning materials are to be provided. In addition to this, ongoing training is required for active members of mine rescue teams to maintain active status consisting of at least six – 8hr training sessions or 12 – 4hr training sessions every year, at the mine site. Furthermore, ongoing certification of new mine rescue team members to maintain rosters and Advanced Mine Rescue Certification Training are also part of the scope.
